Jake Ballard Injury Update: New York Giants Waive Injured Tight End

The New York Giants have announced that they have waived injured tight end Jake Ballard. Ballard was waived by the team on Monday after failing a physical.

Ballard tore his ACL in Super Bowl XLVI after making two catches for 10 yards. He ranked fourth on the Giants in receptions in 2011 with 38 for 604 yards and four touchdowns. Ballard also had five grabs for 43 yards in the NFL Playoffs before his injury in the Super Bowl.

With the Giants waiving Ballard, they still have seven tight ends on their roster for the upcoming season: Bear Pascoe, Travis Beckum, Martellus Bennett, fourth-round draft choice Adrien Robinson, Ryan Purvis, Christian Hopkins and Larry Donnell. Beckum, like Ballard, also tore his ACL in the Super Bowl.

The Giants signed veteran defensive tackle Rocky Bernard, who was with the Giants last season, to take Ballard's spot on the roster.
