The New York Giants announced on Friday that defensive end Osi Umenyiora has agreed to a restructured contract. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Giants general manager Jerry Reese said, "I appreciate Osi's patience and effort through this process. We talked it out, and it makes sense for everybody involved. We are very pleased, excited and looking forward to seeing number 72 on the field at Monday's OTA."
So far this offseason, Umenyiora has not been involved with the team's drills. The two-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman seemed thrilled to have the negotiations behind him, saying, "I'm just happy, I'm happy all that's over with It's time to get back to work. It was definitely frustrating (not being on the field this spring), but hearing some of the things they said, whether it was Kiwi or (Justin) Tuck or JPP (Jason Pierre-Paul) or Antrel (Rolle) - hearing the way they supported me, it made me want to come back even more and be around them. Those guys really stepped up for me. I really appreciate it and I'm happy to be here with them."
Now entering his 10th NFL season, Umenyiora is 4th on the Giants' all-time sack list with 69. He was second on the team in sacks in 2011 with nine despite only playing in nine regular season games due to injury. During the post-season, Umenyiora and Justin Tuck shared the Giants' sack lead with 3.5 in four games.
