It didn't take long for the New York Giants to hit the first major road block of their Super Bowl defense. The team announced that wide receiver Hakeem Nicks broke his right foot Thursday morning at the club's second OTA and is expected to miss 12 weeks.
Nicks was running a route during individual drills when he fracture the fifth metatarsal of his right foot. He is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday in Charlotte, NC by ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson to insert a screw into the broken bone.
The Giants also announced the release of Brian Witherspoon, who tore his ACL Wednesday for the second consecutive offseason. To fill Witherspoon's roster spot, the club signed defensive back Dante Hughes, a six-year veteran with 53 games of NFL experience.
