Joe Martinek, Brandon Bing Impress On Day 2 Of Giants' Rookie Mini-Camp

Saturday was a good morning at New York Giants rookie camp for a pair of former Rutgers University football players. Running back Joe Martinek and cornerback Brandon Bing were among the standouts during Saturday’s first of two practices.

Martinek, a 5-foot-11, 224-pound undrafted free agent, drew praise from Giants head coach Tom Coughlin.

“He’s been pretty good the whole camp, very steady,” said Coughlin. “Probably can play both spots. I think he has some position versatility.”

Martinek worked exclusively at running back or as the single back in shotgun or two-tight end sets during his reps on Saturday morning. Friday he had worked some at fullback.

Bing spent last season on the practice squad. He made the best defensive play of Saturday morning’s workout, going step-for-step with second-round pick Rueben Randle on a deep route down the left sideline and batted the ball away from Randle at the last instant.
