2012 NFL Mock Draft, New York Giants: Zach Brown, OLB, North Carolina

The New York Giants recent free-agent signing of tight end Martellus Bennett has caused a shift in thinking for those doing NFL mock drafts. Rather than focusing on tight end, it is likely time to look elsewhere for what the Giants might do with the 32nd pick of the first round in the 2012 NFL Draft.

That shift in thinking is reflected in the latest NFL Mock Draft from SB Nation, released Monday morning. The popular pick recently has been Stanford tight end Coby Fleener. This time, however, SB Nation selected Zach Brown, OLB, North Carolina for the Giants at No. 32.

SB Nation’s Ryan Van Bibber wrote:

“Brown’s draft stock is cooling. He has the athleticism desired in an outside linebacker, but people are starting to question whether or not he can actually make the tackles needed to go with the ability to get to the ball. Really, the Giants could go almost any direction with this pick. Offensive line depth would be helpful. A replacement for Brandon Jacobs is a need as well, but that is one they can fill in later rounds.”

Van Bibber may or may not be right about Brown. Most likely, however, he is correct in asserting that just about anything is on the table for the Giants at this point.
