2012 NFL Mock Draft [Update]: Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford To New York Giants

In its most recent 2012 NFL Mock Draft, released Monday, SB Nation selected Stanford tight end Coby Fleener for the Super Bowl champion New York Giants. The Giants, of course, have the 32nd and final pick of the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

The selection of Fleener (profiled here) is actually a prescient one.

The Giants lost starting tight end Jake Ballard and reserve tight end Travis Beckum to torn ACLs in their Super Bowl 2012 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday. The long-term, uncertain recovery process for both players makes tight end a position the Giants must address this offseason via either the draft or free agency.

Here is what SB Nation said about the selection of Fleener for the Giants:

“It’s hard to imagine the Giants offense getting another weapon in the passing game, but adding a sure-handed tight end would add another dimension to their offense.”

It may also be a situation where, if Fleener or another quality tight end is available, the Giants have little choice.
