Todd McShay 2012 NFL Mock Draft 2.0: Dwayne Allen, TE, Clemson, To New York Giants

ESPN NFL draft analyst Todd McShay released version 2.0 of his 2012 NFL Mock Draft on Friday. McShay has the New York Giants selecting Dwyane Allen, a tight end from Clemson, with the 31st overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The Giants, of course, would prefer to have the 32nd pick as that would mean they were victorious in the 2012 Super Bowl. For now, though, they sit at No. 31 in the NFL Draft Order.

Of Allen, McShay says “given the players available, a seam-stretching tight end such as Allen would be a good option. He could open up some room for New York’s perimeter threats, and he also improved as an in-line blocker in 2011.”

The National Football Post lists Allen 42nd on its Big Board. In his scouting report, NFP’s Wes Bunting says Allen is “an NFL talent who can be used in a number of ways on an NFL offense.”

The Giants got a good season from tight end Jake Ballard in 2011, but have been disappointed by Travis Beckum. Upgrading at tight end is undoubtedly one of many ways the Giants could go on draft day.
