New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was named Pro Football Weekly's 2011 Most Improved Player (via PFW).
Cruz went undrafted out of UMass in 2010. After a monster preseason game against the Jets in 2010 (6 catches, 145 yards, 3 touchdowns), Cruz only appeared in three games during the regular season.
This past season, Cruz had 82 grabs for 1,536 yards and 9 touchdowns.
After his first season, not many could have expected such a breakout season, not even his quarterback Eli Manning.
"I don't think anybody really saw it coming," Manning said. "A guy who had a good preseason game last year versus the Jets, and then after that, he wasn't around. He was on I.R."
Cruz is the second Giants player to win the Most Improved Player Award from Pro Football Weekly. Defensive end Osi Umenyiora won it back in 2005.
