The New York Giants did not do much Monday night other than accept the gifts the St. Louis Rams generously wanted to give them. The Giants did, however, come away with a much-needed 28-16 victory. New York is 1-1, while St. Louis falls to 0-2.
The Giants led 21-6 at halftime with two of their touchdowns coming thanks to St. Louis turnovers. A 3-yard touchdown pass from Eli Manning to Hakeem Nicks followed a muffed punt by Greg Salas of the Rams. Michael Boley returned a fumble 65 yards for a score when Cadillac Williams dropped a pass from Sam Bradford. Domenik Hixon made a brilliant one-handed catch for a 22-yard score for New York shortly before halftime.
In the second half, Brandon Jacobs scored on a nine-yard run to give the Giants a 28-9 advantage.
Manning finished 18-of-29 for 200 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
The Rams outgained the Giants, 367 yards to 300. Two lost fumbles and converting only one of four trips into the red zone into touchdowns doomed St. Louis, however.
