Camp Eli: No Frills And, Hopefully, No Injuries For Giants

The New York Jets are holding 'Jets West' in Mission Viejo, Calif. The New York Giants are holding a similar group of workouts at Hoboken (N.J.) High School under the tutelage of quarterback Eli Manning, although 'Camp Eli' is without all the bells and whistles of tickets of 'Jets West.'

Tight end Kevin Boss, a free-agent-to-be who may or may not be a Giant in 2011, told reporters that Manning and the players he is throwing to are being cautious in their approach to the workouts.

"Eli's been real smart about it. ... He's not wanting to throw real long, deep routes, doesn't want guys trying to run after a ball that's maybe not catchable and pull a hamstring. Guys are being smart about it, too. This would be a terrible time to get injured."

Boss also told reporters he is not 100 percent yet following off-season hip surgery:
"I'm still not cleared to go 100% yet, but I’m out there doing what I can," Boss said. "I'm just a couple weeks away from being able to go full speed."
Boss is a popular Giant who has caught 110 passes in three seasons as a starter. He is not a star, but he is a valuable player and with no apparent replacement in sight it would seem the Giants would be wise to re-sign Boss as soon as possible.
