2011 Undrafted Free Agents: NFL Lockout Leaves Them In Limbo

What will happen now to players like Ryan Bartholomew, a center from Syracuse, and Joe Lefeged, a safety from Rutgers, who were bypassed over the weekend in the 2011 NFL Draft?

Normally, NFL teams spend the day or two following the conclusion of the draft working the phones to try and sign a handful of undrafted free agents they would bring to NFL training camps. With the NFL Lockout back in place, however, teams can’t contact these players.

So, at this point it seems pointless to speculate on which UDFA’s might fit for the New York Giants or New York Jets. No one has any idea when teams might be able to contact these guys, or if there will be ‘real’ training camps that will provide them with opportunities to show they belong on NFL rosters.

You have to wonder if some of these players will look toward the UFL for opportunities to get on the field this fall.
