Delone Carter Selected In The Fourth Round By Indianpolis Colts

Former Syracuse football runningback Delone Carter had to wait two days into the 2011 NFL Draft, but his name was finally called Saturday afternoon in the fourth round by the Indianapolis Colts.

“You know, man, Peyton Manning. It’s an honor to go there,” Carter told the Syracuse Post Standard. “There’s a lot of Syracuse alums there … Dwight Freeney … I just feel honored and blessed.”

Carter will join a backfield that is filled with talent. Jospeh Addai, a Pro Bolwer in 2007, is slated to be the number one guy, while Donald Brown served as the backup. Syracuse native and Michigan alum, Mike Hart, and verteran Dominc Rhodes should battle for the third spot - if there's every football again.

However, there is a lot of hope for Carter because Hart and Rhodes seem to be on their way out. Hart has been on and off the active roster during the last couple of years because of injuries, while Rhodes is in the midst of his third different stint with Indy.

The NFL Draft is currently in its fifth round and still Syracuse linebacker Doug Hogue and center Ryan Bartholomew are on the board. For Rutgers, safety Joe Lefeged seems likely to be the only player drafted.
