NFL Draft 2011: Gabbert To Jaguars, Ponder To Vikings

The NFL Draft is rolling along, and things are moving fairly quickly by draft standards.

Blaine Gabbert’s "slide’ did not last very long. The Jacksonville Jaguars traded with the Washington Redskins, moving up from No. 16 to No. 10, to select the Missouri quarterback Thursday night.

Gabbert will likely back up incumbent David Garrard for a year, maybe two before taking over as the Jaguars’ quarterback.

With the 11th pick, the Houston Texans took defensive end J.J. Watt.

With the 12th pick, the Minnesota Vikings continued the early run on quarterbacks, grabbing Florida’s Christian Ponder. That makes four quarterbacks taken in the first 12 picks.

The New York Giants have the 19th overall selection in the first round. The New York Jets have the 30th selection.

Thus far, none of the players thought to be targets for the Giants with that 19th selection have come off the board. Florida guard/center Mike Pouncey, Boston College offensive tackle Anthony Castonzo, Colorado offensive tackle Nate Solder and Alabama running back Mark Ingram are among the possibilities.
