New York Giants Among 23 Teams Awarded Compensatory Picks In 2011 NFL Draft

The NFL announced the compensatory draft picks for the upcoming 2011 NFL Draft. Curious what compensatory picks are? Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks. Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors.  The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council.  Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula. For the New York Giants, the loss of quarterback David Carr and defensive tackle Fred Robbins positions them to receive a  compensatory pick in the 6th round. It will be the 198th overall pick of the draft.
