The Philadelphia Eagles Saturday ruled quarterback Michael Vick (ribs) and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (shoulder, hamstring) out of today’s Sunday Night Football matchup with the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
That means Vince Young will start at quarterback for the Eagles. It also means former New York Giant wide receiver Steve Smith, who has played sparingly for Philadelphia, will receive extensive playing time against his former team.
Vick broke two ribs during last week’s loss by the Eagles to the Arizona Cardinals, apparently suffering the injury early in the game and playing through it for the rest of the game.
The Giants are expected to be without linebacker Michael Boley, meaning the team’s four rookie linebackers could all see extensive playing time. Mark Herzlich, the undrafted rookie from Boston College, could be in line not only for his first real playing tim, but also his first NFL start.
