Last Friday I decided to try my hand at predicting NFL games. I told you guys not to trust me on any of this stuff, but I went ahead and gave it a shot. I went an OK 3-2, and I am back this week to try again.
I thought I would make one change. Each week I will pick the Jets and Giants games, plus three others.
this week's lines courtesy of Odds Shark:
- New England (-4.5) at Cleveland
- San Diego (-3) at Houston
- Miami at Baltimore (-5)
- New Orleans (-7) at Carolina
- New York Jets (-4.5) at Detroit
- Arizona at Minnesota (-8.5)
- Tampa Bay at Atlanta (-8.5)
- Chicago (-3) at Buffalo
- New York Giants (-7) at Seattle
- Indianapolis at Philadelphia (-3)
- Kansas City at Oakland (-2.5)
- Dallas at Green Bay (-8)
- Pittsburgh (-5) at Cincinnati
Now, for this week's picks:
Giants (-7) at Seattle: The Seahawks are all beat up. Matt Hasselbeck won't play, meaning Charlie Whitehurst makes his first NFL start. The Seattle offensive line will likely be missing a couple of players, and receivers Mike Williams and Golden Tate may not play. Still, the Seahawks are home at Qwest Field where they always have a huge advantage, and the Giants are 0-2 there. It's a lot of points, and it makes me nervous, but I am going to take a big gulp and go with the Giants. Pick: Giants
Jets (-4.5) at Detroit: The Jets were terrible offensively last week in a 9-0 loss to Green Bay, and this shapes up as a difficult road game against a young, improving Lions team. The Jets are much better, though, and I think this week they get back to what they do best -- running the ball and playing great defense. Pick: Jets
Chicago (-3) at Buffalo: The Bears (4-3) have been stumbling after a 3-0 start. The Bills are 0-7, but have played well while suffering two straight overtime defeats. This week I think Buffalo finally gets rewarded. Pick: Bills
Dallas at Green Bay (-8): Seems like a lot of points, but Jerry Jones already thinks his 1-6 Cowboys are 1-7. They probably are. They have packed it in, coach Wade Phillips is a joke, the team is a mess. The Packers still have plenty to play for, and they will take care of business. More embarrassment this week for the 'Boys. Pick: Packers
New Orleans (-7) at Carolina: C'mon, these are defending champion Saints vs. the 1-6, going nowhere, Panthers. How can you not take New Orleans here? Pick: Saints
Last week: 3-2
Season record: 3-2
