Sean Locklear, the New York Giants' veteran offensive tackle who was carted off the field during Monday night's 17-16 loss to the Washington Redskins, will miss the rest of the season with a severe knee injury, according to a report published by USA Today.
From the report:
Preliminary tests following the right knee injury the New York Giants' right tackle suffered in Monday's loss to the Washington Redskins indicate Locklear is out for the season, according to a person informed of the results of those tests.
The person, who spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because Coughlin didn't speak on the severity of the injury and the team only called it a "severe knee sprain," said Locklear is believed to have torn the ACL and perhaps more.
Locklear's loss is a big one for the Giants. The veteran offseason free-agent acquisition has started games at both left and right tackle this season, filling in for both Will Beatty and David Diehl when each suffered injuries of their own. Locklear started Monday at right tackle in place of Diehl, who had suffered a burner the previous week.
Without Locklear, the backup tackle will be untested second-year man James Brewer, a fourth-round draft choice in 2011.
