2013 NFL Playoff picture and scenarios: Giants' playoff hopes in peril

The Giants need a win over the Eagles in Week 17 plus some help to have a chance at defending their Super Bowl title.

The playoff hopes of the defending champion New York Giants are on life support after an embarrassing 33-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Giants have been blown out two straight weeks and have lost five of seven games overall.

The Giants now sit at 8-7, tied with the Dallas Cowboys and one game behind the Washington Redskins in the NFC East. The Giants are technically in third place because the Cowboys have a better record in the division. The Redskins and Cowboys face off in Week 17, with the winner taking the NFC East crown.

New York still does have an outside shot at squeaking into the playoffs as the second wild card if they beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17 and also get some help. The Giants are currently one game behind both the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears, but if both of those teams fall, New York will grab that last spot with a victory over Philadelphia. The Vikings face the Green Bay Packers and the Bears face the Detroit Lions next weekend.
