ookies David Wilson and Jayron Hosley are up this weekend for the New York Giants. The team on Friday officially ruled running back Ahmad Bradshaw (knee/foot), cornerback Prince Amukamara (hamstring) and safeties Kenny Phillips (knee) and Tyler Sash (hamstring) out for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
That means Wilson and Hosley will play key roles as the Giants (8-5) try to maintain their one-game NFC East at the Georgia Dome against the 11-2 Falcons.
Giants' coach Tom Coughlin said sidelining Bradshaw, who has played through a series of foot injuries over the years, was "the only wise move."
"It would have been a reach for him to be ready," Coughlin said. "With someone like that, his constitution, you have to give him every benefit of the doubt. I’m sure he’d be disappointed right now. He thinks come game day it’s all going to straighten out for him. In this case, it’s, medically, really the only wise move.
Wilson, of course, is coming off his franchise-record 327 yards of total offense Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. Hosley has started four games, but struggled during the middle stretch of the season and his playing time has been reduced in recent weeks. Most of his playing time this season has come in the slot, but Hosley will be outside on Sunday.
"I’m a corner. I’ve played corner all my life. So I’m definitely comfortable out there. That’s where I made my name at corner. I’m not saying that I downplay the nickel position. I love playing nickel. Wherever I’m needed I’ll play, but at the end of the day I’m going to be playing corner," Hosley said.
