Brooklyn Nets free agent point guard Deron Williams will meet with the Dallas Mavericks first on Monday, according to a report (via ESPN).
While the Mavericks will get the first crack at Williams Monday afternoon, the Nets will reportedly meet with him on Monday evening. The Nets can offer Williams a longer deal worth more money. However, the Dallas pitch includes the opportunity to play at home and for a recent NBA Champion.
The Nets will attempt to strengthen their pitch to keep Williams by trying to surrounding him with talent. Brooklyn is in contention with the Lakers and Rockets to land Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard. As the Howard deal could take some time, the Nets are also reaching out to the Hawks, Rockets and Grizzlies for other talent options through a trade.
