Knicks GM Says 'We Didn't Do It'

Did the New York Knicks tamper with Carmelo Anthony, putting doubt in his mind about the wisdom of a possible move to New Jersey?

Of course they didn’t. According to them, anyway.

An Internet report said the Nuggets were angry at the Knicks, feeling they committed tampering through back-channels. It’s unclear if the Nuggets are angry at [Amare] Stoudemire for spending last week hanging out with Anthony.

The implication was the Nuggets weren’t thrilled in engaging in trade talks with the Knicks because of the potential illegal contact. Walsh said new Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri never mentioned it in their talks.

“We weren’t [tampering],’ " Walsh said. "Pretty quickly, we didn’t think they saw a trade with us. We haven’t been that involved in it since. I’ve never heard that before.

“We didn’t do it,” Walsh added. “This is the first I’ve heard of it and I’ve talked to their general manager a couple of times.”

Sure, sure, Donnie. The subject of ‘Melo and Amare playing together probably never came up once when they were chillin’ last week. We believe you. Wink, wink.
