The struggling New Jersey Nets lost at home Tuesday night to the Philadelphia 76ers 82-77, stretching their season-high losing streak to eight games.
Spencer Hawes scored a season-high 18 points in just 24 minutes of action on 8 for 11 shooting to help the Sixers win their sixth game in eight attempts. Jrue Holiday added 19 points and a team-high 5 assists while Elton Brand scored 15.
Brook Lopez paced the Nets with 16 points and both Devin Harris and Travis Outlaw had 14 as New Jersey found themselves surprisingly playing short-handed.
News broke just before the game that second-year forward Terrence Williams was being traded along with Joe Smith to the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers, respectively. The team then lost Anthony Morrow to a hamstring injury just before tip. He attempted to play, but had to leave immediately after checking in.
The Nets were already playing without rookie Damion James who is out 6-8 weeks with a broken foot.
The injuries forced Stephen Graham -- who hadn't played the last three games -- into a starting spot and a season-high 33 minutes. Rookie Derrick Favors didn't start, but his 27 minutes were just one off his highest for the season as he contributed just his second double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Philadelphia has now won 8 of their last 11 meetings with the Nets, including six straight.
The Nets will return to action Thursday night in Washington against the Wizards.
