Morning Coffee! Martin Brodeur Not Seriously Injured

Good morning, New York sports fans. It's a soggy morning where I am in upstate New York, and many of the local squads that played Wednesday night also have that all-wet feeling. It was not a great night.

  • The New Jersey Devils, off to an awful start, actually defeated the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, 5-3, Wednesday. They got a scare, though, when veteran goalie Martin Brodeur left with an injured elbow. Brodeur, though, says he expects to play Friday against the New York Rangers.

  • Things were going beautifully for the New Jersey Nets Wednesday night -- until the final few minutes of their game against the Charlotte Bobcats. The Nets then melted down, blew a 10-point lead, and lost, 85-83.

  • The New York Islanders were routed by Carolina, 7-2.

  • The New York Jets will be in Detroit this weekend to face the 2-5 Lions. They know, though, that the Lions are a young, talented team on the rise.

  • The New York Giants have to travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks. Coach Tom Coughlin is emphasizing that his team must have "poise in the noise."

  • Rutgers lost a back-and-forth contest with USF Wednesday in a Big East matchup, 28-27. This is not turning out to be a great season for the 4-4 Scarlet Knights.
