The New Jersey Devils signed their top pick, and son of New York Rangers’ hero and Devils villain Stephane Matteau, Stefan Matteau, to an entry-level contract on Tuesday.

The younger Matteau is an 18-year-old physical rugged forward; and at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds he has the size to go along with the temperament. With USA Hockey's under-18 squad last year Matteau scored 15 goals, dished out 17 assists and earned 166 penalty minutes. The Devils selected Matteau with the 29th pick of the NHL entry draft in June.

Of course Matteau's name is known to hockey fans all over the New York area as it was his father Stephane who scored the game-7 double-overtime goal that lifted the Rangers over the Devils in the 1994 Eastern Conference finals en route to their Stanley Cup.
