The New Jersey Devils take a 2-1 lead into intermission following the first period of Tuesday night's Game 5 against the Philadelphia Flyers. With a win, they would earn a bid to the Eastern Conference semifinals of the 2012 NHL Playoffs. New Jersey fell behind 1-0 early in the period, but charged back to score two straight. They took the lead when Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov attempted to clear the puck, but instead hit David Clarkson who deflected the puck into the net.
The blunder is the difference so far in a game that has been relatively tight played. The Devils hold a slim 12-11 lead in shots on goal so far. Bryce Salvador scored the equalizing goal after Maxime Talbot gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead just after the seven minute mark of the period.
