The New Jersey Devils wasted few minutes in Game 1 against the Philadelphia Flyers before scoring a goal. Zach Parise scored the first goal of the game at 3:16 in the first period:
Patrik Elias controlled the puck from behind the net, free from any immediate interference. Parise skated from the corner into a position for Elias to pass the puck to him, setting up a one-time shot. Even with defenders in front of him, Parise fired off a shot and got it past Ilya Bryzgalov.
The Flyers managed to put just six shots on Devils goalie Martin Brodeur while his offense made 15 attempts against Bryzgalov. Philly had two power play attempts during the second half of the period but was unable to make anything of the man-advantage each time.
