Devils-Islanders Final Score: New York Defeats New Jersey, 1-0

The New York Islanders defeated the New Jersey Devils, 1-0, at the Nassau Coliseum on Sunday.

Islanders rookie goaltender Anders Nilsson has now played in three NHL games in his career. In his previous two outings including one start, he gave up eight goals. On Sunday against the Devils, Nilsson turned away all 24 shots offered by New Jersey to pick up his first career win in a shutout. No other Islanders goaltender has pulled off that feat.

Kyle Okposo fought through traffic with the puck in the slot and scored the lone goal of the contest at the 2:39 mark of the second period. The goal was the 15th of the season for Okposo. Casey Cizikas assisted on the goal. It was his third assist in six games played this season.

With the win the Islanders are now five points behind the Jets for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Devils are currently in the 7th playoff spot, trailing 6th place Philadelphia in goal differential.
