The New Jersey Devils look to build on a shutout victory against the Ottawa Senators when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night. (7 p.m., MSG Plus)
New Jersey bounced back from consecutive losses to shut out Ottawa 1-0 on Tuesday night. Ilya Kovalchuk scored at 17:20 of the second period and Johan Hedberg notched 34 saves as the Devils held on for the win, which was especially important because the two teams are jockey for seeding in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Devils are currently in sixth place with 89 points while the Senators, with 84, are seventh.
Toronto was outscored 13-2 in consecutive defeats to the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers.
