The New Jersey Devils have a chance to make history tonight at the Wells Fargo Center.
The Devils have won two road games over the Philadelphia Flyers this year, and will look for a road sweep when the two teams meet for their final game of the season series tonight. Gametime is 7 p.m. and can be seen locally on MSG Plus 2.
New Jersey has never gone undefeated in Philadelphia in a single season. The closest they came was the 1989-90 season, when they had three wins and a tie. They also managed to win three of the four games during the 2006-07 season, but had one overtime loss blemish their perfect record.
Devils head coach Peter DeBoer said completing the road sweep would be an important accomplishment.
"This is a tough building - a very good team, tough building," he told Tom Gulitti of The Bergen Record. "We've taken a lot of pride in our road play this year and being a good road team. If you can win in this building, you can win in any building in the league in my mind."
The Devils lead the season series, winning three of five games. They won the most recent meeting, 4-1, Sunday at the Prudential Center in the first game of the home and home series. Patrik Elias put home the first goal of the game, scoring on the powerplay with 25 seconds remaining in the first period. Claude Giroux tied the game 16 seconds into the third period, evening the score at one. New Jersey responded with three goals to skate away with the victory.
Martin Brodeur stopped 18 shots for his 650th win. He'll make his first start in Philadelphia since March 28, 2010, in a 5-1 loss.
llya Bryzgalov will start for Philadelphia. He's won his last five starts, posting shutouts in his last two victories.
Ilya Kovalchuk, who recorded three points in Sunday night's win, enters tonight one goal shy of 400 career goals. He'll become the 87th skater to reach that mark.
The two teams enter the game tied for fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia has played one less game than New Jersey.
