Devils Complete Comeback, Defeat Ottawa 5-4 in Shootout

The 14-12-1 Devils found themselves down three goals to none midway through the second period last night, after Senators right wing, Daniel Alfredsson scored his seventh goal of the season. Later in the period the Devils finally got on the board with a shorthanded goal from Zach Parise to cut Ottawa's lead to 3-1. 

Another shorthanded goal from Dainius Zubrus early in the third period cut the deficit to one. Later in the period Mattias Tedenby and Ilya Kovalchuk scored back-to-back goals, giving the Devils a late 4-3 lead, after trailing 3-0 a period before. 

With five seconds remaining, down one, Senators' center, Jesse Winchester scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game at four and force overtime. 

Overtime came and went without any scoring, leaving the outcome of the game in the hands of a shootout. After three shots a piece, both teams had two goals, forcing a fourth chance for each team. On the fourth shot Adam Henrique scored a goal for the Devils, which was followed by a Senators miss, giving the Devils the 5-4 shootout victory.
