The New Jersey Devils rebounded from a Monday loss to beat the Buffalo Sabres by a final score of 3-1 on Wednesday night. With the win, New Jersey has now won five of their last eight games, making a run up the standings in the Eastern Conference.
Petr Sykora led the Devils with a pair of goals, both coming in five-on-five play. Patrik Elias assisted on both goals, giving him two points in the game. Zach Parise added a third goal. Martin Brodeur turned away 22 of 23 shots on goal for his fourth win in December.
Thomas Vanek scored on a second period power play for the Sabres. Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller stopped just 20 of 23 shots for the loss.
New Jersey jumps over Toronto for sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 41 points. They still trail the Rangers, Flyers and Penguins in the Atlantic Division.
For their next game, the Devils host the Pittsburgh Penguins at 3:00 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, Dec. 31. The Penguins won their last meeting, in Pittsburgh on Oct. 22, by a score of 4-1. The Devils are in Ottawa on Jan. 2 for a game against the Senators.
