Carolina Hurricanes At New Jersey Devils: Ilya Kovalchuk Will Sit Due To Injury

New Jersey Devils winger Ilya Kovalchuk told reporters he will miss Tuesday night's meeting with the Carolina Hurricanes.

The New Jersey Devils enter Tuesday's bout against the Carolina Hurricanes (7:30 p.m., VERSUS HD, TSN2)     without the services of Ilya Kovalchuk, who is still recovering from a lower-body injury which kept him out of the Devils' previous game.

Kovalchuk told reporters he will not play against the Hurricanes, but plans to participate when the Devils host Washington on Friday.

"I feel much better," Kovalchuk said. "It's good we have a couple days before Friday and Saturday's back-to-backs, so I'll try to be ready for those."

The Devils have won two straight games, including a 3-2 overtime victory against Winnipeg on Saturday. Rookie Adam Henrique scored twice in the win, notching the game-winner on a breakaway with 3:32 left in overtime. Martin Brodeur made 21 saves in his first win of the season.

Carolina enters Tuesday's meeting carrying a two-game losing streak, including a 5-2 defeat to Dallas Sunday. The Hurricanes are led by Jeff Skinner, who has six goals and eight assists through 14 games.
