Devils 2, Kings 1: New Jersey Wins Shootout At The Rock

The New Jersey Devils were looking to go 2-1 on the season when they hosted the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night (Oct. 13, 2011) at the Prudential Center in Newark.

And they did it by beating their west coast rivals by a score of 2-1.

The Devils got off to a rocky start and had a scare when Martin Brodeur left the game with an injured shoulder. He’s currently listed as day-to-day.

Los Angeles got on the board just under two minutes into the game thanks to a backhand by Simon Gagne, but New Jersey would tie it up later in the period with a wristshot by Patrik Elias.

The game would remain scoreless through the second and third periods as well as overtime, leading to a Devils victory in the shootout when Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise backhanded a pair past Jonathan Quick.

Not quick enough.
