Van Riemsdyk Cuts Devils Lead To 2-1 After Two Periods

The New Jersey Devils lead the Philadelphia Flyers, 2-1, after the second period today at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers lead the period in shots, 10-6. The Devils lead in total shots, 16-15.

James van Riemsdyk cut the Devils lead to 2-1 with 20 seconds left in the period. Claude Giroux sent a pass to the slot, and van Riemsdyk chipped the puck under the right arm of Johan Hedberg and just inside the post for his 12th goal of the season.

That goal came after several good chances throughout the period for Philadelphia. Earlier in the period, Hedberg made a glove save on van Riemsdyk's shot from the slot to stone the winger.

The Devils, who received three powerplay chances, couldn't find a way to extend the lead with the man advantage.

New Jersey once again dealt with a player injury during the second period. Tim Sestito, playing the puck behind the Flyers net, was sent head first into the boards with 3:42 left in the period. Sestito laid on the ice writhing in pain, but was able to play later in the period.

The Devils also announced that Colin White will miss the remainder of the game with an upper body injury.
