Thornton Hat Trick Leads Sharks to 5-2 Win Over Devils

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Joe Thornton netted a hat trick and matched a career high with five points, leading the San Jose Sharks to a 5-2 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Patrick Marleau and Dany Heatley each had a goal and three assists for the Sharks, who got their first home win of the season. They had gone 2-1 on their recent road trip.

Antero Niittymaki made 27 saves in the victory.

Martin Brodeur gave up all five goals on 39 shots in the loss, the third in a row for the Devils, who fell to 2-7-1 overall. Andy Greene and David Clarkson had New Jersey's goals.
