Buffalo Sabres 6, New Jersey Devils 1: Kovalchuk A Healthy Scratch

Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Ryan Miller stopped 26 shots as Buffalo trampled New Jersey, 6-1, at Prudential Center.

Thomas Vanek scored twice while Tyler Ennis had a goal and an assist for the Sabres, who have won two of their last three.

Zach Parise scored the lone goal for the Devils, who have lost three of their last four. Johan Hedberg started in net but was pulled after giving up four goals on 15 shots. Martin Brodeur finished the game in net and stopped 12- of-14 shots.

All-Star New Jersey winger Ilya Kovalchuk was a healthy scratch from the contest.

Buffalo took a 1-0 lead 6:57 into the game when a turnover in its own end went back the other way, and Drew Stafford's wrister from the right circle sailed past Hedberg.

With 3:27 left in the first, the Sabres took a 2-0 advantage as Mike Grier's pass from the left circle went to the slot, where Tyler Myers' big slap shot beat Hedberg.

The Sabres made it a three-goal game 3:10 into the second, when Ennis tipped in a Rob Niedermayer shot, and it was 4-0 five minutes later on a Patrick Kaleta wrister, prompting a goaltender change.

Skating on the power play late in the second, Vanek's second goal of the season gave the team a 5-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

Parise's goal with 8:35 left in the contest broke up Miller's shutout bid, while Vanek scored his second goal of the game 25 seconds later.
