NFL Mock Draft 2013: Jets select Barkevious Mingo in first round

Mingo projects to be an elite pass rusher in the NFL. He seems to be an ideal fit in the Jets' 3-4 scheme.

The New York Jets are a mess right now. They don't have much on offense, and while they have a couple talented players on defense, injuries and inconsistent play really slowed the unit down in 2012. Now, with the No. 9 overall pick at the upcoming NFL Draft, the Jets could be looking to add an elite pass rusher.

According to the latest mock draft from CBS Sports, New York will take LSU defensive end Barkevious Mingo in the first round.

Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSU: The Jets need a lot of help in several areas, mostly on offense, including the quarterback position. But the Jets have struggled to put pressure on the opponents' backfield and Mingo is an ideal fit to stand up as an edge rusher in a 3-4 scheme.

Mingo, a 6'5, 240 lb. junior, has drawn comparisons to Aldon Smith of the 49ers with his blend of size and speed. He recorded 4.5 sacks and 38 tackles with the Tigers in 2012.

Many scouts still consider Mingo's pass rushing skills to be raw, and he likely won't be a huge contributor right out of the gate as he learns the ropes of the NFL. This being said, his upside is as high as any defensive player in the draft, and it seems he is a lock for the first half of the first round.
