Super Bowl 47 commercials: Kia has babies in space and nothing about cars

Kia has babies in space in their latest commercial. That is to say, they have baby humans, pandas, puppies ... and only one car in their Super Bowl commercial.

Robert Cianflone

The Super Bowl is less than a week away, and as excited as people are about the actual matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens, there are plenty that are awaiting the next crop of Super Bowl commercials.

It's an event almost as big as the game itself. A large portion of the audience will be saying "Shhh, the commercial is about to start!" as opposed to telling people to quiet down when the game is actually on. This year, many companies are releasing teasers or even the full ads on the Internet in advance of the big game.

The number of companies doing it grows each year. And if you were sitting there thinking "Gee, I wish one of the new ads finds another way to put babies in situations that they're not usually in, because that is FUNNY!" then Kia has got you covered in their "Space Baby" ad.

Now, it's not as bad as it sounds. It's kind of a cute commercial, in which a kid asks his parents where babies come from. There's even some adorable animals thrown in. There is absolutely nothing about the 2014 Kia Sorento SUV, which is the product being advertised. But hey, who cares, right? Here's the video below, via Kia's official YouTube page.

At any rate, if the animals, babies, or the impossible-to-be-accidental placement of "penetrate" doesn't get you, then the bit at the end where the dad makes the quick-thinking decision just might. Still, it would be nice if the humor was actually related to the product being advertised, which is what many of the best ads out there shoot for.

Not a terribly disappointing go at it, though!
