New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is reportedly very close to returning to action. Bryan Hoch of MLB.com is reporting that Teixeira did sprints on Thursday, testing his strained left calf calf.
He could return as early as Friday (tonight), but more likely will wait until Saturday's game. Teixeira has been out since Aug. 27.
The Yankees will welcome the return of his bat, as they have struggled to generate runs in his absence. Teixeira currently leads the Yanks with 81 RBI.
In other injury news, Ivan Nova had a very encouraging bullpen session on Thursday, and is also set to rejoin the team soon.
Nova has been out since Aug. 23 with right shoulder tightness. The young righty has struggled all year with consistency, but it seems that manager Joe Girardi will give Nova another shot in the starting rotation, rather than send him to the bullpen.
