U.S. Open 2012 Scores: David Ferrer Heads To Semis After Thriller

Thursday at the 2012 U.S. Open saw one of the most thrilling and competitive matches of the tournament as David Ferrer defeated Janko Tipsarevic in a thrilling, four and a half hour, five-set battle.

Ferrer battled from down 3-0 in the fifth set to force the tiebreak. He earned the first mini-break at 5-3, and was able to serve out for the match, winning 6-3. 6-7 (5-7), 2-6, 7-6 (7-4). Ferrer now moves on to the semifinals. He will face the winner of Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin Del Potro.

Djokovic and Del Potro take the court in a primetime match-up, under the lights, at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Thursday night.

The mixed doubles championship was decided on Thursday afternoon as Ekaterina Makarova and Bruno Soares took down Marcin Matkowski and Kveta Peschkee in a super tiebreak. The sides split the first two sets before Makarova and Soares won the super tiebreak, 12-10. The winning combo did not sign up for the tournament until minutes before the deadline.
