Behind a breakout performance from wide receiver Kevin Ogletree, who caught seven passes for 101 receiving yards and two touchdowns, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the New York Giants, 24-17, in a season-opening showdown at MetLife Stadium.
Dallas quarterback Tony Romo completed 22 of 39 passes for 307 passing yards and three touchdowns, including a 34-yarder to wide receiver Miles Austin that helped the Cowboys take a 24-10 lead with 6 minutes, 12 seconds reaming in the game.
With 2:36 to go, the Giants capped a 12-play, 79-yard drive with a nine-yard touchdown reception from tight end Martellus Bennett from quarterback Eli Manning to help trim Dallas' lead to 24-17. But the Cowboys cemented their victory when they were able to convert a first down on their final possession, allowing them to run out the clock.
Cowboys' running back DeMarco Murray finished the contest with a game-high 131 rushing yards on 20 carries. The Giants totaled just 82 yards on the ground, most of it coming on a 33-yard run by running back Ahmad Bradshaw (17 carries, 78 yards).
Eli Manning finished 21-for-32 for 213 passing yards and one touchdown, while wide receiver Victor Cruz caught a team-high six passes for 58 receiving yards.
