Giants Vs. Cowboys: Jason Witten Willing To Sign Waiver To Play, According To Report

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is willing to sign a medical waiver so that he can participate in Wednesday night's season opener against the New York Giants, according to a report by ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Witten is currently listed as doubtful due to the small, but serious laceration to his spleen that he sustained in the Cowboys' preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders on Aug. 13. If he signs the waiver, the tight end would absolve the organization and its medical staff of any blame if he were to incur another injury to the area.

The team is unwilling to accept any such waiver.

However, that doesn't mean the door has closed on him potentially playing. Witten has made the trip to New York and the most recent CT scans have shown that the spleen has healed, though doctors have recommended caution. As of this time, the team is expected to wait until game-time to make a decision.

If he is going to play on Wednesday, he will need to receive clearance from the medical staff, which has yet to occur.
