The second week of the 2012 U.S. Open continues on Tuesday in Flushing Meadows, and Day 9 will be highlighted with a blockbuster primetime match between Andy Roddick and Juan Martin Del Potro in the Round of 16.
Roddick is the only American male player remaining, taking the court each time for what could be his last career match. As soon as Roddick wrapped up his fourth-set win over Fabio Fognini on Sunday, the discussion immediately turned to the Tuesday-night showdown against the 2009 U.S. Open winner, Del Potro. The match will be the lone singles match of the evening session at Arthur Ashe Stadium, scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
The afternoon play on Ashe will feature two of the top three women's players in quarterfinals matches, and defending men's champion Novak Djokovic.
No. 1 Victoria Azarenka will start things off at 11 a.m. ET against tough Aussie Sam Stosur. Azarenka has looked good so far but Stosur will present the biggest challenge to date. No. 3 Maria Sharapova will play the second match of the day on Ashe, facing Marion Bartoli. Finally Djokovic will wrap things up in the afternoon against Stanislas Wawrinka, giving way to the Roddick showdown.
