Kyle Wilson: Revis replacement will 'just play my game'

Presswire

Kyle Wilson is now a starting cornerback for the New York Jets with the news that Darrelle Revis will be lost for the season with a torn ACL. Wilson, a 2010 first-round pick, has started 14 games in his two-plus seasons with the Jets, so he is no stranger to the playing field.

"I just feel like I'm going (to go) out there and I'm going to continue to do my job. Go out there, make plays and have fun. Just play my game, that's all I can do," Wilson said Monday.

Wilson has three interceptions in his career, including one this season.

Revis, of course, is considered the best cornerback in the NFL. Revis Island is really a place wide receivers have gone to mostly be ignored by their quarterbacks. Through two games, quarterbacks had a passer rating of a ridiculous 6.3 throwing at Revis, according to Pro Football Focus. In 2011, quarterbacks had a 45.6 passer rating targeting Revis.

Quarterbacks had a 95.1 passer rating targeting Wilson a season ago, completing 40 of the 60 passes thrown in his direction. Thus far this season Wilson has been targeted 11 times with quarterbacks completing 8 passes. The passer rating when targeting Wilson is 58.5.

"Each year has gotten slower and I think that's because of knowing what to look for and just having that experience. There's nothing like being out there on the field," Wilson said.

Unfortunately for the Jets, Wilson is now going to be on the field a lot more than they would like.
