Sports On TV, 09/24: Yankees Trying To Close In On Playoffs

The MLB season is headed down the stretch with the pennant races heating up, while the NFL campaign is just starting to hit its stride. On Monday, another lineup of great games present themselves with important contests dotting the landscape.

MLB: New York Yankees at Minnesota Twins, 8 p.m., YES Network: The Bronx Bombers will try to get back to their winning ways against the Twins, who are coming off a doubleheader sweep over the Detroit Tigers. Andy Pettitte will be on the mound for his second start since returning from the DL. The southpaw will be opposed by Liam Hendriks, who comes in with a 1-7 mark on the year.

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Mets, 7:10 p.m., SNY: The Mets are riding a three-game winning streak after sweeping the Miami Marlins over the weekend. They'll attempt to keep rolling with Jenrry Mejia who has only made one start in 2012. The rapidly fading Pirates have Kyle McPherson on the mound, who lost his only start last week versus the Milwaukee Brewers.

NFL: Green Bay Packers at Seattle Seahawks, 8:30 p.m., ESPN: The Packers and Seahawks are set to clash with one team about to fall below .500 at 1-2. The Packers haven't played since last Thursday when they manhandled the Chicago Bears. Seattle is also trying to win its second straight affair after beating up on the Dallas Cowboys.
