The Tour Championship 2012: Jim Furyk Surges Into First Place

With Friday action fully underway, Jim Furyk has pulled into sole possession of the Tour Championship lead.

Furyk has made five birdies in his first seven holes, moving him to six under par for the tournament. A quick look at his scorecard shows that he has only made threes so far.

He currently leads Matt Kuchar by one. Justin Rose and Bo Van Pelt trail by two strokes.

Tiger Woods bogeyed his first hole, and now trails Furyk by three. In Woods' last four Tour Championship appearances, he has won one, and finished second three times.

With each putt made or missed, the FedExCup standings shift. But as things currently stand, Rory McIlroy is in line to win the Cup and the $10 million prize.

McIlroy is currently two under par for the tournament, and four strokes behind Furyk.
