Four members of the LIU Brooklyn men's basketball team were arrested and charged with assault after a weekend brawl on campus with five members -- three men and two women -- of the track team, law enforcement officials said in a report by the New York Post on Friday.
Basketball players C.J. Garner, Julian Boyd, Jamal Olasewere and Troy Joseph were charged with third-degree assault following the fracas that sent four members of the track team to the Brooklyn Hospital with non-serious injuries Sept. 15. It is unknown what caused the fight at this point, according to the report.
Boyd, Olasewere and Garner were LIU's three leading scorers last season, scoring 17.4, 16.9 and 12.6 points per game, respectively. The Blackbirds finished the 2011-12 season 25-9 overall, going 15-0 at home and 8-8 in road contests. LIU is in the midst of some of their most successful basketball, winning both their second consecutive Northeast Conference regular season and tournament championships.
