Jets Roster Moves: Patrick Turner Released, Ricky Sapp Signed To Practice Squad

The New York Jets waived wide receiver Patrick Turner and signed linebacker Ricky Sapp to the practice squad on Tuesday. With a slew of injuries on the outside, Turner developed some rapport with quarterback Mark Sanchez during the preseason. But he did not get much action in the Jets opener against the Bills on Sunday. He left the game with a hamstring issue and did not catch a pass. The release of Sanchez's former teammate at USC comes as a bit of a surprise.

Sapp is a rush end out of Clemson who is trying to get on the field during his second season in the pros. He played in the Jets final preseason game against the Eagles but did not record a tackle. He was originally signed to the practice squad when the Jets trimmed their roster to 53, but he was released last week. While he's on the smaller side for an NFL defensive end, Sapp does have the ability and burst to get around the edge at the NFL level.
