Yankees Vs. Tigers Final Score: New York Wins, 4-3

The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers, 4-3, at Comerica Park on Thursday. With the win, the Yankees split the four-game series.

Raul Ibanez got the Yankees on the board first in the second inning with an RBI triple. Ichiro Suzuki doubled the lead with an RBI single which scored Ibanez. The Tigers took the lead in the fifth inning on a two-run shot by Alex Avila. Andy Dirks put a third run across in the inning with an RBI single. The Yankees used back-to-back solo home runs by Mark Teixeira and Eric Chavez in the eighth inning to take the lead back.

Hiroki Kuroda got the start for New York and went 6 1/3 innings, giving up 10 hits and three earned runs. Clay Rapada picked up his third win of the season for finishing the final two outs of the seventh inning for Kuroda without surrendering a hit. Rafael Soriano got his 27th save of the season for pitching the final 1 1/3 innings, giving up two hits. Doug Fister started for Detroit and also went 6 1/3 innings, giving up eight hits and two earned runs. Joaquin Benoit took the loss and a blown save for giving up two earned runs on two home runs in the eighth inning.

The Yankees (65-46) will begin their next series against the Toronto Blue Jays (53-58) on Aug. 10 at Rogers Centre.
