Is anybody else not buying New York Jets' owner Woody Johnson saying Tuesday that he is "surprised" by the amount of media coverage given to Tim Tebow?
↵"I think the enormity of the coverage kind of surprised me a little bit," Johnson said. "I knew there would be press, there would be interest, but even by our standards this is pretty amazing."
↵Sorry, Woody. The Jets' acquisition of Tebow has always seemed like more publicity stunt than football move. This is a headline-hungry franchise with an inferiority complex when it comes to the New York Giants.
↵They haven't been able to match the four-time Super Bowl champs on the field, so the only thing they can do is take the back pages.
↵The whole point was to generate headlines, so Johnson claiming surprise at the whole things seems disingenuous to me. The Jets live for the media circus, so Johnson has exactly what he wanted.
